Thermoplay developed a particular model of temperature controller for 1 to 13 zones, specifically for the Brazilian and South American market, where it is offered at a highly competitive price and very short delivery times.

The ThBr controller has been completely designed and engineered in Italy and it has been submitted to the most rigorous reliability and operation tests for what concerns the nozzles and hot runners temperature regulation.

This equipment has been designed to control and maintain with utmost precision the temperature in the various zones (manifold, nozzles, injection bushing) of the hot runner systems, thus guaranteeing a finished product compliant with the most demanding technical and qualitative requirements.

Operation

The functionalities are exactly the same as the standard Thermoplay controllers. The equipment has been designed to regulate a “hot runner system” by controlling the electrical energy supplied to the heating items of the various system parts (distributors, nozzles, ….) in order to keep constant the running temperature (max. temperature 400°C). The equipment allows an independent control of each zone. Every zone is driven by a last generation control unit capable of guaranteeing the most important features required by the market standards:

• Auto-tuning of the regulation, based upon the connected thermal load, both: during the startup stage (initial tuning) and during the normal operation (adaptive)
• Soft Start to limit the power supplied (max. value 15%). The purpose of this feature is to progressively remove the humidity from the elements and to limit the mechanical stress due to the thermal expansion of different coupled materials.
• Detection of any type of failure in the connection line between controller and resistor within the regulation loop (loop break alarm)
• Double 4 figure display for simultaneous visualization of actual temperature and setup temperature (set point)
• Double set point (reference temperature) which allows lowering the mould temperature to a predefined stand-by value, during the processing pauses
• Simultaneous set point variation of all zones

Operating modes

Automatic: the control unit maintains constant the temperature of each individual zone with reference to the set point value and reading the actual temperature through the thermocouple installed in the system. Both temperature values are shown on the display.
Manual: In case of thermocouple failure, the operation can continue in manual mode through a power percentage adjustment. In this case, the reference to the actual temperature of the system zones operated in manual mode is not available.

Technical characteristics
The thermocouple inputs are isolated and they are suitable for both: thermocouples connected to ground and thermocouples isolated. The thermocouple connection cables are of the compensated type Fe/CuNi. The control unit must be supplied with 400V three-phase + neutral (240V three-phase upon request), 50/60 HZ and it can drive single phase resistive loads, as well as 240V single phase loads with power up to 3500W. The models with 1 or 2 control zones are always supplied with a 240V single-phase voltage. The main items for electrical power regulation of each individual zone consist of a Thermoregulator (THLFS) and a static relay (SSR). The power components are oversized to guarantee a full reliability even in case of voltage overload. Various “cable kits” are available, to adapt the control unit to any type of connection used on the mould.
